Torrevieja is a city in the province of Alicante in the region of Comunidad Valenciana in Spain. The city is a popular tourist destination located about 40 minutes drive from the city of Alicante and the airport. Torrevieja was originally a small fishing village, and is today one of Europe's largest salt producers, Torrevieja has previously been called 'salt town', but in recent years the city has also been called 'sports town', due to the large sport arenas that have been built in recent years. As a result of this fantastic initiative, Torrevieja will be one of four organizational cities during the Women's Handball World Cup in 2021.
When staying in Torrevieja, you are a short walk to white, elongated sandy beaches with a 'blue flag' stamp, as an indication of, among other things, high water quality. In the immediate vicinity and often 'right outside' the door you will find a large selection of local shops, restaurants, cafes, shopping malls, green parks, the port and the promenade.
